The idea behind Axle

Better tools.
More room to build.

We believe the future of development should give builders more freedom. To choose their models, own their workflow, and spend more time on the work that matters.

Powerful assistance should feel like an extension of your workspace.

Axle brings AI development to your computer. It works with your files, your terminal, and the model accounts you choose. The aim is simple: make it easier to get from an idea to code you understand.

That starts with a few practical decisions. Keep the work visible. Give people control over sensitive actions. Use ordinary files. Make the source available.

We are building a tool for people who care about what they make, and how they make it.

Our principles

A few things
worth building around.

01

Your computer. Your code.

A development workspace should fit around your repository. Axle works with ordinary files, familiar tools, and the environment you already use.

02

Choice is part of the product.

Different tasks call for different models. Bring your own provider accounts and choose the model that makes sense for the work.

03

The work should be visible.

See the tool calls, read the command output, and inspect the changes. Useful assistance leaves you with a clear picture of what happened.

04

Build in the open.

The source is available under the MIT license. Read it, run it, improve it, or make it work a little differently for yourself.

Open by design

A project you can be part of.

Good tools get better when people can look inside them. Explore the code, tell us what is getting in your way, or contribute a change.

The company behind AxleNexia

Axle is designed, built, and maintained by Nexia. It is the same team, the same standard, and the same bias toward tools that stay out of your way.
